Somatics is a broad, umbrella term that refers to various modalities and practices that incorporate mindfulness, embodied sensation, movement, and tracking of the nervous system to support an increased capacity for being able to come back to loving connection with oneself and others. While the term is modern, somatics have their roots in indigenous and traditional embodiment practices around the world, including dance, music, meditation, art, and ritual.

Somatic Experiencing®
Somatic Experiencing® is a therapeutic model, originally developed by Peter Levine, for understanding and working with the nervous system.
Somatic Experiencing aims to support your nervous system in having more access to the here and now by nourishing its capacity. There are a variety of ways we might do this, but at the foundation is an honouring that each individual has a natural draw towards ease. By cultivating a space of warmth, openness, creativity, empathy, safety, curiosity, and playfulness, an SE practitioner can help an SE client move closer to that ease and feel more capacity to be present in the ‘here and now’.
SE isn’t about never being activated or feeling like our metaphorical feathers are being ruffled; rather, it’s about working towards understanding our own selves at a deeper level and experiencing the ability to navigate states of Ease, Mobilization, and Connection without getting stuck in any single one of them.
I completed my 3 year training as a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner™ in 2025, having studied with Linda Stelte and Dea Parsanishi, and participating in group consults with many esteemed SEPs including Sage Hayes, Peter Levine, Raja Sevlam, and Mashid Hager.
Hanna Somatics
Hanna Somatics is a movement-based somatic practice that was originated by Thomas Hanna and Eleanor Creswell. It draws inspiration from Hatha Yoga, and focuses on muscle isolation work done slowly and with focus on ease of movement.
I completed my Level 1 and 2 training in Somatic Yoga through the Institute of Applied Somatics, Duncan BC, in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
Deep Flow Bodywork
*About Deep Flow
I studied Deep Flow Level 1 with Milena Bergeron through the Vancouver School of Bodywork and Massage (now Vancouver School of Healing Arts) in 2010.
I completed my Deep Flow Teacher Training in 2012.
In addition to this, in 2012 I was also the copy editor for the Level 1 Deep Flow training manual.
Sufism and Yoga
In 2002 I completed several intensives with the late Sufi master Adnan Sarhan.
I have been a lifelong student of the lineages of Bhagavan Nityananda of Ganeshpuri.
Both of these spiritual paths deeply influence my understanding, experience, and application of somatic practices.
Expressive Dance and Movement
I hold a BA(hons) Acting from Rose Bruford College, Sidcup Kent. This training included 10 hours of movement per week that focused on Laban Dance and Lecoq Mime to unlock physical expression of emotion and storytelling.
For over a decade, I maintained a regular practice of ecstatic dance, including Five Rhythms, Contact Improv, and more. I was a regular facilitator for ecstatic dance events from 2018-2021, and still occasionally DJ and facilitate.
What to Expect in a Somatic Experiencing Session:
Using sensory stimuli, such as things you might see, hear, smell, touch, or taste in your space, we will support your nervous system to ‘orient’ to an experience of ease, which both grounds and prepares your nervous system for more exploration. Where our session goes after that will depend on any intention you have, or anything that comes up in the moment. SE sessions may focus on exploring sensations of affirmation and support, and they may touch on memories of pain and hurt that have left an impact in your nervous system. I may ask you about the sensations of an experience, or about the images that a feeling evokes. I might offer reflections on what I notice shifting in you as you describe your experience, and we may also talk about your emotions or the stories you hold about these sensations.
During a session, we may explore gentle movement or play with moving your attention between different moments of memory, different emotions, or even different felt sensations. Sometimes clients experience emotions that have been hard to express coming to the surface, or find that an experience that felt scattered and hard to make sense of starts to feel more cohesive and connected. Many clients find that repeated, dedicated somatic work, helps to create not just greater capacity for navigating stressful relational experiences, but also can help to facilitate deeper connection in their relationships.
At all times, you retain the right to decline any invitations to exploration that you are offered.
SE work can feel gentle, yet profound. Plan to give yourself some rest time after our session, as working with the nervous system can take a lot of energy!
Somatics and Non Monogamy
I hold in my heart a belief that Somatics are the “missing ingredient” in the practice of health non-monogamy.
Somatics offers us tools through which to explore the trauma we have experienced through the loss of a relationship, and to move towards healing in our relationships.
In non-monogamy, where we experience the stimulation of multiple relationships (through having multiple partners and their partners), there can be a tendency to push or rush through to be able to maintain our engagement with everyone in our anarcule — and slowing down can feel scary, because in slowing down, we feel more. More of the good things, and more of the uncomfortable things too.
Somatic Experiencing can be a wonderful way to explore things like jealousy and catastrophizing reactions to a partner going on dates with others; patterns of people-pleasing/ignoring one’s own capacity/limits; and the ways you orient to safety, security, and stability in your non-monogamous relationships.
And so, I’m excited to let you know that I am starting to offer Somatic Experiencing as part of the work we can do together!
Somatic Experiencing (SE) isn’t the same as coaching, nor is it the same as traditional talk therapy: in an SE session, we begin by supporting your nervous system to be nourished and resourced, and you’re invited to notice the sensations, images, emotions, and internal changes you experience as we talk about something that may have been challenging.
Somatic Experiencing can sometimes feel like we’re doing very little, but working with the nervous system, we can actually do a LOT.
I offer Somatic-specific coaching packages for existing clients.
